SKIRBALL CULTURAL CENTER

The Afghan-American Community Organization’s First Annual Gala, A Night in Afghanistan, took place at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, November 5th 2022. This was a unique and intimate opportunity for the community to celebrate the exceptional contributions of the Afghan diaspora. Guests had the opportunity to enjoy authentic Afghan cuisine, watch live performances, take part in a silent & live auction, and so much more. GALA HONOREE

Jahan Shahryar is the co-founder of Restore Her Voice, a nonprofit dedicated to resettling women from conflict zones and advocating for their success academically, occupationally, and socially. She is also the co-founder of Brune Kitchen, a consumer packaged goods company specializing in tahini-based treats that are gluten-free, vegan, and paleo-friendly.

 Previously, Jahan practiced corporate law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and served as corporate counsel to emerging companies at CGL LLP. She published “Our Shared Stories: An Afghan Diary,” an anthology of stories from diaspora around the world and donated 100% of the proceeds to girls' schools in Afghanistan. 

Jahan received her B.A. in Economics and Political Science from U.C. Santa Barbara and her J.D. from U.C. Berkeley School of Law, where she coordinated the International Refugee Assistance Project.
