Location: Remote/Hybrid position, with availability for on-site events.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
The Afghan-American Community Organization (AACO), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is dedicated towards advancing the Afghan-American community through education, outreach, and promoting civic and social engagement. AACO organizes the largest national conference for the Afghan-American diaspora, oversees the only annual scholarship program specifically for Afghan-Americans, funds humanitarian initiatives in Afghanistan, and supports resettlement and integration efforts for newly arrived Afghans.
AACO is a nonprofit organization that is governed by a 7-member Board of Directors and led by a team of over 20 dedicated volunteers.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Board of Directors, this is the first paid position for the organization. This individual will lead, manage, and oversee AACO’s day-to-day tasks and development of the long-term strategy, including the amplification of AACO’s mission and reach.
The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced, people-centric, mission-driven leader who is dedicated to making meaningful progress for the Afghan-American community.
The Executive Director will:
Support the vision and mission of the organization through the effective implementation of philanthropic investments and policy initiatives.
Responsible for providing support to and ensuring coordination across all AACO Committees.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
MANAGEMENT/HR/OPERATIONS
Develop, communicate, and lead initiatives that advance our mission & vision.
Inspire, manage, and develop a team of volunteers.
Attend monthly board meetings.
Lead and oversee weekly committee meetings.
Manage onboarding and offboarding of volunteers & volunteer resources.
Create, develop, and meet annual goals in partnership with the committee and Board of Directors.
FINANCE/FUNDRAISING
Create and execute a fundraising strategy to sustain and grow initiatives – including identifying new donors, maintaining donor relationships, submitting grant applications, growing corporate partnerships, and increasing revenue-generating opportunities.
Responsible for developing and managing the organization's budget, financial reporting, and resource allocation to ensure the organization's stability and long-term viability.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS
Work closely with community members and relevant organizations to support the Afghan-American community.
Build and expand strategic partnerships with government, business, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders to support AACO initiatives.
Manage the development and publication of the Impact Report.
Serve as an external philanthropic subject matter expert, giving talks and presentations as appropriate on AACO’s contribution to the community.
STRATEGY/INNOVATION
Research, identify trends, and develop ongoing relationships with other funders and prominent thought leaders in the community and identify opportunities to partner with or involve other foundations in AACO’s initiatives.
Expand and innovate existing programs.
Find opportunities for increasing efficiencies within the organization.
COMPLIANCE
Ensure compliance with all relevant financial, legal, and regulatory requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree
3+ years of relevant experience
Experience leading and inspiring teams
Adaptable to the needs, interests, and perspectives of others, with cultural sensitivity
Experience managing projects effectively with strong attention to detail and an organized approach; handling projects of varying sizes, complexity, resources, risk, and timelines
Skilled in using data analysis to inform strategic planning and decision-making and effectively communicating complex information to stakeholders.
Possesses strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively present to large audiences and donors
Experience managing a budget
Experience with compliance
Familiarity with Afghan culture
Familiarity with technology and tools, including G-Suite, Slack, Zoom, and social media management platforms
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position, with a standard workweek of 40 hours.
The scheduling of meetings will be determined by the availability of the geographically dispersed committee members and Board of Directors. This may necessitate the need for work during non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
BASE SALARY
The Executive Director position at AACO will be compensated with an agreed annual salary in the $70,000 - $100,000.00 range for full-time employment.
